This is an 8-day training course which addresses the nine chapters of a Safety Analysis Report for Packaging (SARP) for Radioactive Material Transportation Packages: 1. General Information; 2. Structural; 3. Thermal; 4. Containment; 5. Shielding; 6. Criticality; 7. Package Operations; 8. Acceptance Tests and Maintenance Program; and 9. Quality Assurance. The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has presented this Course since 1986.  This course has a focus on Type ”B” Radioactive Material Transportation Packages as defined in Title 10 of the United States Code of Federal Regulations, Part 71 (10 CFR 71). Prospective students should have a minimum of a B.S. in nuclear, chemical, or mechanical engineering, or equivalent education or experience.

If you have any questions, please contact the event POC coordinators, Ashley Mata and Marina Postiglione. Contact mata5@llnl.gov for the password to register.

Note: during the course, you will receive 1 large binder (4") with training course material that you will need to make your own arrangements to ship them back to you if you do not wish to pack them in your luggage.
*We will schedule a longer lunch on the last day to give you the opportunity to go to a local FedEx or UPS if you prefer to ship the binders back to yourself.

Also, please review the agenda to be aware that the last day of the course is scheduled to run until 5 p.m. so that you can plan your return flights accordingly.

Attendance from individuals from State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSTs) is heavily restricted.

Event Coordinators will reach out to you to obtain the required PII to attend this training course after receiving your registration.

New Tour Option!
We are excited to announce that we have added optional tours. The offered tours are the AML- Additive Manufacturing Lab, and NIF-National Ignition Facility. Please browse our external website www.llnl.gov for more information.

As a national security laboratory, all onsite visits to LLNL require pre-approval, only if you do not hold a current DOE HSPD-12 badge. We'll need to collect additional Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Providing this information will assist us with determining what type of access request to submit for your tour.

All visits to LLNL by non-U.S. citizens require pre-approval by the U.S. Department of Energy and the LLNL Foreign Visits and Assignments Office. Reporting may require processing a request through our Visitor Tracking System (VTS) with the visitors information. Processing time for approvals may vary. Please allow 45-90 days for processing. Our event coordinators will contact you to collect your information.
