The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) have incorporated public tours into the community involvement plan for the Livermore Site Groundwater Cleanup Project and Site 300 Groundwater Cleanup Project. The tours are typically scheduled in the spring, with the quantity and frequency determined by public interest. The tour experience consists of a group of up to 15 people, guided by DOE and LLNL Environmental Restoration Department (ERD) subject matter experts who will present the history and progress of the groundwater cleanup project while touring the site.

Both Livermore Site and Site 300 are Superfund sites listed in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Priority List (NPL), and cleanup efforts are conducted under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). Cleanup projects are overseen by the EPA, California EPA (CalEPA), Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), and CalEPA Regional Water Quality Control Boards (RWQCB).
